WYSHRA Board of
Directors Meeting
September 5, 2011
Wheatland
arena
Called to
order at 8 a.m. by chairperson JoAnn Merritt
Adult
directors present: TJ Spratt, Chip Scantling, John Thurston, Kathy
Lucas, Troy Scott, and JoAnn Merritt. Dixie Huxtable present as
well. Student event directors and officers present: Amber Robinson,
Emily Faber, Kassidy Scott, Colby Thurston, Mason Rockafellow,
Austin Eller, JW Thrush, Reed Merritt, Kaylee Burnett, Lacee Good,
Jamie Lucas and Miranda Niehoff.
Joann
encouraged student event directors to contact local rodeo
secretaries (contact info posted on the website under rodeos tab)
the week prior to rodeo to arrange time to mark patterns, measure
and set barriers, tie goats and check stock.
All were
reminded of hierarchy through which complaints can be lodged:
members come to student event directors who then go to the judge for
clarification. This is to occur in the arena at the time of the
issue, not after the rodeo.
Minutes
of the conference call in July were read concerning the decision
that was made on points. We had voted then to count points from the
12 best season rodeos; on a 10, 9, 8 etc point scale; for a maximum
of 120 points to take into state. It was also voted at that time
that state would count for 60 points but no decision had been made
on breakdown of those points (70 bonus points added on after final
placings). Dixie encouraged us to decide on the distribution of
points at state sooner rather than later. Troy Scott moved that
points be split 15 points to first go, 15 points to second go, 15
points to qualifying round and 15 points to average with each
divided among top ten placers per go and average. John Thurston
seconded. There was no discussion and motion carried.
Troy
Scott then moved that year end saddle winners be determined the same
as last year: total points accumulated through all regular season
rodeos on a ten point scale and the first two go’s at state finals
on a 10 point scale. TJ Spratt seconded. Motion carried.
Dixie
brought up the following as reminders to all: 1)Misconduct/abuse to
animals will not be tolerated, 2) Members encouraged to wear back
numbers at all times and must wear them at all times when in the
arena or on arena fence during performance, 3)Cinch All Star
information was in packets of those selected, 4) Cinch Academic
information is online, 5) Calendar sales were down last year.
Members encouraged to sell as this funds travel to nationals and
activities throughout the year.
Emily
Faber asked about 30 second rule. Is it optional at local rodeos or
mandatory? Discussion was held as nationals does not require it.
Chip referred us to minutes of last November meeting when we voted
it is to be enforced.
Meeting
adjourned.
